| Jeannie Motherwell |
In early childhood, my father and stepmother encouraged me to make drawings to go with my poems. Like many, my parents pinned my work to the refrigerator, but they also framed many of these mementos. It was a marvelous form of validation for me and influenced my love for painting today. My collages combine acrylic painting with torn, ripped, or cut images, and often include text. I appropriate the texts from disparate sources including poetry and personal conversations, bridging reading to looking and content to style. I hope my work expresses feelings and things that we know or sense, like introspective daydreams of belonging. I am always working toward the hopeful. Daydream: A dreamlike musing or fantasy while awake, especially of the fulfillment of wishes or hopes. -- American Heritage Dictionary |
