Smudge Studio is a collaboration between Jamie Kruse and Elizabeth Ellsworth. Our work materializes a mode of address AS an artistic practice. It enacts the desire to address and be addressed as in the making. As artistic practice, this mode of address consists in responding to the world not as it is presumed to be known, but as always having the potential to become else.
We use various media to document how topographies of place and people (including our selves) look, sound, feel and move when they encounter this address. These documents signal what becomes sensed as possible in the world when we perform this mode of address as an art practice.
We ask that audiences consider and activate possibilities of becoming else in response to our work, through their own terms of experience. We believe our practice is "successful" to the degree that this is felt possible by ourselves and others.
We are based in Brooklyn and Provincetown.
