Few towns in the U.S. are as inspiring as Provincetown. With its bittersweet history, stunning architecture, remote setting and vibrant future, Provincetown holds my attention like no place else. Sitting on the edge of the Atlantic Ocean and positioned almost as far east as the country gets, Provincetown is held frozen between the old world and the new. It is a piece of Americana that transcends quaintness or honky tonk, perhaps because no place else in the U.S. can claim that the Mayflower landed there first. What strikes me most as an artist about Provincetown are its moods. Every hour of every day reveals something new and unknown about the town. Lighting especially affects the way it feels and out at the end of Cape Cod surrounded by nothing but water and sand, the lighting is spectacular. I am in love with the light in Provincetown, much as Benneker and Hopper must have been in their time. Luckily, the lighting hasn't changed.
